CONCRETE DRIVEWAY RESURFACING – RESIN BONDED AGGREGATE DRIVEWAYS
RESURFACE YOUR EXISTING CONCRETE DRIVEWAY WITH THE LOOK OF EXPOSED AGGREGATE (DECORATIVE COLOURED STONES)
Removing and replacing old concrete driveways, especially with exposed aggregate concrete, is costly and time-consuming. Resurfacing with resin bonded aggregate or coloured stones removes the need for demolition, giving you a new look driveway (and pathway or patio) at a fraction of the cost.
A resin bonded driveway requires much less upkeep than exposed aggregate concrete, saving you time and money. Maintenance is simple - an occasional power wash will prevent the growth of mildew, moss or algae.
Resurfacing over a properly cleaned and etched existing concrete driveway, resin bonding creates an extremely strong surface. With a compressive strength of up to 2 times of standard residential concrete, resin bonding is suitable for vehicle and pedestrian traffic, and creates a low maintenance practical surface with no loose material.
With a range of natural coloured aggregates and stones to choose from, Resin Bond Driveways Australia is your complete resurfacing solution, also perfect for steeper driveways where the concrete surface can become slippery over time.
WHAT IS RESIN BOND?
Resin-bond and Resin-bound is an eco friendly resurfacing system for driveways, paths, patios and car parks that was pioneered in the USA around 25 years ago, and has been widely installed overseas for over 20 years, and creates a low maintenance practical surface with no loose material .
Naturally coloured and dust-free aggregates (decorative stones) are bonded onto a coating of resin that is applied to the existing concrete. With resin bond concrete resurfacing, almost any concrete surface can enjoy a complete face lift at a much lower cost than removal and replacement, and transform your dull drab pathway, patio or pool area into a beautiful new decorative surface.
The advances made in epoxy and polymer resins have led to advanced systems that cater for all types of commercial and domestic applications. Our high quality resin ensures greater flexural performance for external applications and the resin will not yellow in appearance when exposed to UV light, and provides greater protection from UV degradation. Our eco friendly resin is a flexible surfacing material, is resistant to cracking and will permanently cover up cracks and imperfections in your existing concrete surfaces.
Resin-bond resurfacing is a resin bonded aggregate surfacing system suitable for paths, patios, pool surrounds and concrete surfaces with light traffic. Resin-bound aggregate is applied to driveways and heavy traffic areas.
HOW IS RESIN BOND APPLIED?
Resin bonded surfacing produces a surface with the appearance of natural aggregate or stone but with aggregate which is firmly bonded to the existing concrete surface.
Dried aggregates are spread onto a coating of resin after the resin has been applied to the surface. It is often referred to as a scattercoat, broadcast or coat system. This method involves applying the resin over a suitable base using a squeegee, and then 'scattering' the chosen decorative stones or aggregate over the tacky resin before it sets. A topcoat is then applied to ensure each stone is held securely in place by the resin and will not dislodge.
Resin bonded resurfacing produces a surface with the appearance of natural aggregate or stone but with aggregate which is firmly bonded to the existing concrete, and is resistant to high temperatures, frost, oil stains and mildew, and is largely slip resistant.
RESIN BOUND DRIVEWAYS - AN ECO FRIENDLY ALTERNATIVE TO NEW CONCRETE DRIVEWAYS
Resin-bound is a fully permeable paving solution which allows water to freely drain through the surface. This helps to prevent standing water and largely eliminates surface water runoff, which protects the surrounding environment by allowing natural drainage.
Our Resin-bound installed driveways have a higher compressive strength than standard residential concrete driveways when utilising our EcoGrid ground stabilisation system. The interlocking plastic grid system is made from high strength Polypropylene (PP) and has been extensively tested and used overseas for more than 25 years on driveways, roads, highways, mining access roads and even airstrips.
WHAT IS RESIN BOUND?
Resin-bound is a mixture of aggregate (decorative coloured stones) and a specially formulated resin, used to construct new driveways, paths and carparking areas and is a fully permeable solution. It is a flexible surfacing material, so is resistant to cracking, and will not stain like concrete.
As well as the aesthetic appeal, resin bound driveways and paths minimise environmental degradation, as the permeable surface not only helps to prevent standing water, it largely eliminates surface water runoff into the surrounding environment.
Permeable paving is an important component in Low Impact Development (LID), a process in the United States that attempts to minimize impact of water quality and the similar concept of sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS) in the United Kingdom. In the UK, Resin-bound meets the requirements of SuDS standards, as this helps to prevent standing water and largely eliminates surface water runoff.
In Australia, research on permeable pavement systems has been conducted since 2014 under water sensitive urban design (WSUD) practices, a term used in Australia to describe the engineering design approach to the urban water cycle, including stormwater, to ultimately minimise environmental degradation.
The EcoGrid system is installed with compacted gravel and the aggregate or coloured stones are mixed on site using our specially formulated clear resin binder to coat the aggregate particles prior to laying. The Resin-bound mix is then cold applied as the topping layer and hand trowelled.
Our high quality specially formulated resin ensures greater flexural performance for external applications and the resin will not yellow in appearance when exposed to UV light, and is resistant to UV degradation.
